"Sweet" lupin (predominantly Lupinus angustifolius, or Australian Sweet Lupin) refers to domesticated varieties bred to contain negligible levels of toxic alkaloids (less than 0.02% compared to up to 6% in bitter types). Unlike bitter lupin, sweet varieties lack a harsh taste and typically do not require the lengthy multi-day debittering process.

- Ease of Preparation: Many sweet lupin products, particularly flakes or flour, can be used straight from the package. While whole sweet beans still benefit from soaking and boiling (about 1 hour), they do not need days of rinsing to be safe.
