Product Description & Heritage
Nutella was first introduced in 1964, building on a recipe created by Italian baker Pietro Ferrero after World War II when cocoa was scarce. He used abundant local hazelnuts to extend his limited cocoa supply. The unique recipe has made it an iconic brand worldwide.
- Taste and Texture: Nutella is celebrated for its authentic taste of hazelnuts and cocoa, made irresistible by its unique creaminess and spreadability at room temperature.
- Ingredients: The spread is made with only seven carefully selected, quality ingredients: sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts (13%), skimmed milk powder (8.7%), fat-reduced cocoa (7.4%), an emulsifier (soy lecithin), and vanillin (an artificial flavor).
- Health Considerations: It is important to note that sugar and palm oil are the main ingredients, comprising over 50% of the product by weight. While it contains some beneficial nutrients like iron and calcium, it is high in calories, sugar, and fat, and is generally considered a dessert item rather than a healthy nut butter substitute.
- Sustainability: Ferrero is committed to sustainable sourcing, with 100% of their palm oil being RSPO certified sustainable and all cocoa coming from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms.
